Netflix keeps on growing and growing, especially internationally. The American provider for Video on Demand noticed an incredible increase in subscriptions for the membership. It baffled the analysts and exceeded their expectations by far. This also had an incredible effect on the Netflix Stock (NASDAQ:NFLX).
The growth in subscriptions was pushed onwards by the international successes of popular series such as The Crown, House of Cards and Breaking Bad. Also the addition of new seasons such as Gilmore Girls, Prison Break and Black Mirror were are great success. In 2016, Netflix welcomed over 5 million new users, which is way more than the 3,5 millions users that were expected. Analysts say the Netflix stock had a positive impact by the amount of new users.
Within the United States, Netflix saw just under 2 million new users in 2016, which is a lot more than the 1,5 new subscriptions that were expected. In total, Netflix has 95 million users worldwide.
In the past year, Netflix had an increase in the share of investors. External investment grew to a Netflix share of 33%. Also the arrangements with pay-per-view and increased VOD – Video on Demand – subscriptions made the Netflix share grow to record heights. The Netflix stock faltered at a level of $100 in the first half of 2016. Later on, the Netflix share grew to $130. In 2017 the NASDAQ saw the Netflix stock (NFLX) reach a record height of $149 per Netflix share.
Netflix wants to push beyond the milestone of 100 million users in 2017. Internationally the company expects to attract 4 million new users in Q1 of 2017 and in the United States, an amount of 1,5 million new subscriptions is expected. Netflix thinks they can achieve that milestone by increasing the Netflix original series. They hope to invest over $6 billion USD in 2017 for productions and licenses of their Original series.
